MOLETLANE LGBTIQ+ PRIDE CAMPAIGN

ZEBEDIELA MOLETLANE COMMUNITY

Ignite Buddies took part in Stigma and Discrimination Awareness Campaign and Pride Visibility March held in Moletlane Village, Lepelle-Nkumpi Municipality. We managed to access the community and Traditional Authority of the area through collaboration with Moletlane SAPS, Magatle SAPS, Lepelle DSD, Unjani Clinic, Magatle VEP, Moletlane Tribal Authority, Lepelle-Nkumpi LGBTI Movement and Tjiane Drop-In Centre. We thank the communities and local organizations for helping us sensitize our communities.

A successful Mankweng Pride Visibility and Awareness March was held on 26/10/2024 in collaboration with Anova, Mankweng SAPS, Mankweng VEP, Turfloop Arts Centre, University of Limpopo Rainbow, Kanelo 2 Foundation, Polokwane Community Safety Forum and Mankweng Community Law Advice Office.

A successful GBVF Campaign at Lepelle-Nkumpi Municipality, Ga Madisha Ditoro Village on 22/02/2023. The attention and understanding from Elders in this village about LGBTIQ was amazing, we are indeed making progress. We Thank Magatle SAPS and VEP for making the event possible and allowing LGBTIQ Sector to engage with the community after several cases of GBVF sparked in this village in prior months, where a vulnerable mentally challenged woman was sexually violated. The call to end GBVF and discrimination of LGBTIQ members was amplified through this engagement, and the local stakeholders requested a follow us session focusing on LGBTIQ issues broadly. Impact and Progress was made on this event.

TRANS & LOVE NARRATIVES

SELF LOVE dialogue

Transgender and Self Love Dialogue at Library Garden Auditorium, 13/02/2023 in Collaboration with PASPWA. Engagement with multi-sector stakeholders on Freedom of Self Expression and awareness on Transgender and Intersex Issues. The support was very positive as we managed to mobilize through Municipality Forums to reach more communities. The support from Magatle VEP (Lepelle Nkumpi Municipality), Matlala Law Advice Office (Tibane Cluster), Molemole Ignite Buddies, Father A Nation, Polokwane Ignite Buddies, Faith Based Sector, GBVF Organizations, Civil Society Forum, Department of Health Limpopo and others are appreciated. A successful day.

FUND RAISING EVENT

The first group of Ignite Buddies had to do a collective work in coordinating their first public event immediately after their induction training. the team worked very well together, with a minimum participation and outcomes of 0% violence event. The event was to raise fund to cover costs of the event itself, and was not meant for profit making, although it was a success as the attendance was average but managed to cover the costs. It was a refreshing and conducive experience for the whole team, and we appreciate the support from LGBTQI+ community.

INDUCTION TRAINING

The first group of Ignite Buddies underwent Induction training to equip them on how the organizational structure, communication channels and their roles in their communities as Buddies. Consent Agreements were signed as the work is on voluntary basis, with a minimal stipend fee for some activities, hence we did not make use of contracts due to lack of salary budgets. However, all the possibilities were made open by the financial assistance we received from The Other Foundation, their support is making our work blossom.

Community Dialogue-Makotopong

GBV & LGBTIQ+ RIGHTS DIALOGUE

MAKOTOPONG COMMUNITY

Ignite Buddies took part in independently planning a Gender Based Violence and Human Rights Against LGBTQI+ People Community Dialogue. The dialogue was held at Makotopong Olive Branch Lodge, which was a venue donation as the owner was supporting the movement. It was a beautiful and memorable event and the community asked for follow up sessions to learn deeper. Thank you community of Makotopong.

Gender Marker Road Show

LEGAL GENDER RECOGNITION

GENDER MARKER ROADSHOW

CIL collaborated with IRANTI and Department of Home Affairs National, where a safe space is created for Transgender and Intersex people to be able to apply for their gender marker documents without hassels. The roadhsow was a success as the sessions were held in different provinces, and our Limpopo also assisted T&I members apply, the process was positive.

Ignite Buddies underwent different types of meetings and training to equip them on how the organization operates, and their roles in their communities as Buddies. We have given an opportunity to young energetic buddies who are keen to learn and grow in LGBTIQ+ advocacy, Limpopo has been ignited and the flames are spreading.
